SCHEDULE OF THE 1ST INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION ROSER PALOMERO
Inscription: final date for presentation of documentation, 19 October
Pre-selection: final date for notification of acceptance of Competitors, 26 October
Presentation of the Competitors: 17 November
First round: 18-20 November
Semi-final: 21 and 22 November
Final round: 23 and 24 November
Closing ceremony, presentation of prizes and winners’ recital: 25 November
The presentation, the opening concert, all the rounds and the closing ceremony will be held at:

ADMITTANCE OF COMPETITORS
The competition is open to pianists of all nationalities and place of residence with date of birth after 1 January, 1977.
Candidates who have taken part in previous editions of the Competition may compete again if they have not previously won the First Prize.
Inscription:
The Inscription Form should be duly completed
Deadline: 19 October, 2012
Candidates are advised that under no circumstances will changes to the programme be permitted after sending the inscription.
At the inscription moment the Candidates should pay the inscription fee of 160 USD. Should the Candidate not be admitted to the competition, this payment will be refunded.
Competitors who have been accepted, but who are unable to participate in the Competition and who notify the organizers of the fact before the second of November, will have their inscription fee of USD 60 refunded. After expiration of this term will the inscription fee not be refunded in any case.
We also request that any Competitor accepted but who, later than the second of November, finds themselves unable to participate, notify the organisers by email.
Selection:
The applications for inscription to the Competition will be examined by a Committee, presided over by the President of the Jury, which will evaluate the information given and decide in consequence whether or not each Candidate is to be admitted to the competition.
The Candidates will be informed of the decision as to their possible admittance as the Committee advances in its deliberations, by letter or by email, and by 17 October 2012 at the latest.
The decision not to admit a Candidate will be justified in a text included with the letter or email communicating the decision.
The Organising Committee reserves the right to decide the definitive list of admitted Candidates, subject solely to fulfilling the conditions established in these Rules and Regulations
The documentation necessary to obtain the visa will be sent to those Competitors who have requested it in the inscription form only upon confirmation that the inscription fee has been received by the bank. We therefore recommend that those Candidates requiring a visa not wait until the last day before presenting their candidacy for the Competition.
PRESENTATION
Competitors who have been accepted, but who are unable to participate in the Competition and who notify the organizers of the fact before the first of October, will have their inscription fee of USD 60 refunded. We also request that any Competitor accepted but who, later than the first of October, finds themselves unable to participate, notify the organisers by email.
Competitors should be present at the place, day and time established for the Presentation, unless due to unavoidable circumstances which will need to be demonstrated. Any late arrival must be justified by a medical certificate, or by a document from the transport company or organisation stating that the delay is not due to the Competitor (industrial action, technical failures etc) or any other cause that the organisers may deem valid. To the contrary, the Competitor will not be permitted to take part in the Competition.
On the day of the Presentation, Competitors should produce an official document accrediting nationality and date of birth (passport or National Identity Card), and should inform the Competition Secretary of their accommodation address and telephone number in Xiamen. The Competition organisers decline all responsibility for any negative consequences arising from non-compliance with these requirements.
The draw to allocate each Competitor’s order number for all the Rounds will be made on the day of the Presentation.
The day of the Presentation each Competitor will be allocated times during their participation in the Competition when they can practice on the pianos provided for that purpose in the building where the Competition is held.
Costs of accommodation, board, travel and any other cost incurred during participation in the Competition will be met be the Competitor.
ROUNDS
The International Piano Competition Roser Palomero is comprised of a First Round, a Semi-Final and a Final. All Rounds are eliminatory.
All works are to be performed from memory.
No work may be included in two distinct Rounds.
The Competition Organisers reserve the right to restrict access to, and to charge an entry fee for, all Rounds.
PRIZE-WINNERS
The Prize-winners and the Finalists will be required to be present at the Closing Ceremony and Prize-giving so as to receive personally the Prize or Prizes they have been Awarded (Principal Prizes, Special Prizes and Concerts), Medals and Diplomas.
The first three Prize-winners will be required to give a concert with orchestra between fifteen and twenty minutes at the Closing Ceremony.
The absence of any Prize-winner or Finalist at the Closing Ceremony and at other events of the Competition (if required to be present) will lead automatically to the annulment of that Competitor’s Prizes, Medals or Diplomas and the loss of any other benefits that may be associated with such Prizes, except in case of illness, upon presentation of a medical certificate. In such a case, the Competitor may delegate in writing a third party.
The Competition Prize-winners will be required to remain in Xiamen until Monday, 26 November, in order to fulfil obligations with the press, with concert sponsors and prize-money donors and any other obligation related to obtaining any of the Prizes.
The fact of signing the Inscription Form implies that all the clauses of the Rules and Regulations have been read, understood and accepted.

SPECIAL PRIZES
FIRST PRIZE
A tour of five concerts and recording a CD in studio, organised by the Roser Palomero Piano Competition.
SECOND PRIZE
Two concerts organised by the Roser Palomero Piano Competition.
These Special Prizes are assured by the Competition Organisers for the Competitors.
Other prizes may be added up to the day of the Closing Ceremony and Prize-giving.
All the concerts organised by the Competition are remunerated.
Any Prize may be declared void.
If it is thought appropriate, the Jury may divide any Prize excepting the First. In such a case the prize money will be divided in equal parts.
ACCOMODATION GRANTS
1. The Competition Organisers will cover accommodation costs (bed and full board) for all competitors reaching the Semi-Final, from the day after the publication of the results of the First Round and until the day after the publication of the results of the Semi-Final.
2. The Competition Organisers will also cover accommodation costs (bed and full board) for all competitors reaching the Final Round until the day after the Closing Ceremony and Prize-giving.
3. The Competition Organisers will also cover accommodation costs (bed and full board) for the Semi-Finalist competitor or competitors who are awarded a Special Prize, until the day after the Closing Ceremony and Prize-giving.
4. The Competition Organisers reserve the right to indicate the location of the accommodation to the Competitors worthy of such grants.

FIRST ROUND
1. J.S. BACH. A Prelude and Fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier (Book I or II), chosen by the competitor.
2. D. SCARLATTI / A. SOLER. A Sonata by one of these composers, chosen by the competitor.
3. S. RACHMANINOV / A. SCRIABIN / C. DEBUSSY / S. PROKOFIEV / I. STRAVINSKY. A study by one of these composers, chosen by the competitor.
4. F. CHOPIN. A study, chosen by the competitor (excepting the slower studies).
Maximum duration of programme in this round: 20 minutes.
The order of performance of the works is at the competitor’s discretion. Notwithstanding, the President of the Jury may recommend a playing order if he considers it appropriate.

SEMI-FINAL
1. J. HAYDN / W.A. MOZART / L.V. BEETHOVEN. A complete sonata by one of these composers, of the competitor’s choosing, excepting the following by Beethoven: op. 49, no. 1; op. 49, no.2; op. 79.
2. An original work from the Romantic repertory (F. CHOPIN / R. SCHUMANN / F. LISZT / J. BRAHMS / F. MENDELSSOHN)
3. A contemporary original work composed after 1960 or an original work of C. DEBUSSY / M. RAVEL
If necessary the program can be completed with one or more works of free choice
Duration of programme in this round: between 45-60 minutes.
The order of performance of the works is at the competitor’s discretion. Notwithstanding, the President of the Jury may recommend a playing order if he considers it appropriate.
