WELCOME OF THE COMPETITION DIRECTOR The year 2012 will see the inauguration of the Roser Palomero International Piano Competition. Following the sixteen successive years in which the Principality of Andorra Prize International Piano Competition was celebrated, the Competition now changes its name and format, and leaves the Principality of Andorra to become itinerary. Future editions of the Competition will thus be held each year in a different city around the world. An itinerary completion is not a new concept. From 1890 to 1910, five itinerary competitions were held, under the auspices of Anton Rubenstein. Unfortunately, the First World War brought this fascinating iniciative to an end. |

The Roser Palomero International Piano Competition is open to pianists of all nationalities and places of residence. The annual change in where it is held facilitates the participation of competitors from that particular region of the world. In addition, the Roser Palomero Private Foundation will manage the distribution of study grants for children and young people whose artistic quality makes them deserving of help in their artistic training. The coordinated efforts of the Foundation, the Competition and local organizers, will be directed towards the preparation and implementation of a culture of excellence, making each city that hosts the Competition a focus of world attention. This will be achieved through the organisation of concerts, Master Classes and other cultural events. In each country, close contact with conservatories, music schools, cultural entities and businesses dedicated to music—such as instrument manufacturers, distributors, publishers and so on—will be essential to bringing musical culture closer to the population and to collaboration with the country’s own projects. Local music students will be encouraged to participate in the grand event that an International Piano Competition represents. I express here my desire that this new format of the International Piano Competition will help promote musical culture and give support and encouragement to the new generations of pianists that are waiting to take the world stage.
